Is there a specific time in your life when you start being happy? Are you waiting for the perfect job? The perfect house? The perfect engagement ring?
If you are waiting for these moments to define your "happy", I would say stop waiting and get living.
At the beginning of 2019, I made a commitment to myself to be better with my relationships, my health, and my career. So far it has been working out. Sure, I stumble, I’m not perfect, but I feel happier. I’m in much better shape, and I am so pleased with the growth of my business. Things are good.
I am sharing with you some tips or maybe words of wisdom at my 48 years of age.
1). Wear sunscreen. Use makeup with a minimum of SPF 20. For your body, use a minimum of an SPF 50. Many of you twenty-year old’s won’t listen to me, I know. But, when you reach 50 years old, by using SPF now will bring compliments to your skin later. Trust me.
2). Drink A lot of Water. When I say a lot, I mean a lot. Hydration helps with weight loss, that is a given. Did you know it improves brain function, and boost energy levels as well? You should try to drink an ounce of water for each pound you weigh, every day.” For example, if you weigh 150 pounds, that would be 75 to 150 ounces of water a day.
3). Invest in relationships. It’s important. This may be 3 people, or it may be 20. Take the time and make the effort. Be present, be engaged in these relationships. It will be the best asset you will have in your life, and it will make everything you do worthwhile.
4). Take care of yourself, first. Good physical and mental health are key. You will not function your best without making yourself a priority. Raising a family, managing stress, working towards a promotion, coping with loss are all functions of life. Prioritizing you, allows you to succeed in life, cope with stressful situations and take care of the people around you, better.
5). Be kind to others. That means everyone, even those whom you don’t share the same values with. When you are kind to others, you are indirectly making yourself feel good too. Being kind not only changes you, but it also changes the world. Can you imagine what our world would look like if everyone did this?
6). Be green. Every small change helps and matters. Recycle, reuse and join the movement. Living our best life can only happen if we have clean air to breathe. Where are we going to live if we destroy this earth? "If you think you are too small to be effective, you have never been in the dark with a mosquito." — Betty Reese
7) Be successful. Being successful is different than looking successful. If you are focused on prestige, status, and accomplishments, I fear that it will never completely fulfill you. Be purposely in your relationships, your contribution to society and who you are, that is a true measure of success.
And lastly….
8). Get on the floor with your dog. There won't be anyone in your life that will be happier to see you when you come home than your dog. Get on the floor, let them lick your face and talk baby talk to them “Who’s the best boy?”. Dogs are a gift from heaven, and will drastically improve your mood.
